LETTER TO THE EDITOR: More on the Dinosaur

Another thumbs down – wait, dinosaurs don't have thumbs – on the newest attraction at Zoomars.

San Juan sure made the headlines with that atrocious  that was illegally smuggled into the Los Rios Historic District.

The that is on the National Register of Historic Places is known the world over for its unique history and all the historic buildings.

The presence of the dinosaur has a negative impact and will make the district look like the beginning of a Jurassic Park and destroy the historic ambiance that the area has.

[ owner] Mrs. Franks  shows no respect for history or preservation – very disturbing, since she is on the board of directors of the that uses San Juan's rich history to promote  tourism.

I hope that the "monster" will be removed quickly so that Los Rios Historic District  can return  to what it was and is.

Sounds like some of old San Juan dinosaurs are just upset with the new Dino on the block. Nothing illegal has been done as some are trying to make it seem. They are just upset that they did not give their approval. What a waste of time this is .

Mrs. Byrnes..bravo to you for standing up for what is right, along with the majority that support you in this town. You are invaluable to our historical signaficance, meaning, what history represents in our community. THANK YOU! In recent posts, I have been vilified for sticking up for our history, city proceedures, laws, and what is right. Like you, we will not back down. I made it very clear in my early postings that Franks acted with no permit, a brazen above the law attitude, showing no regard for city proceedures, and she is on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce? How disturbing indeed. This is a slippery slope, and must be stopped. Any one with an ounce of sense knows you just don't erect a huge, ugly " lure" in a historical area, for her own financial gain, and turn our rich history into an amusement park. Consult the City first. Thank goodness we have kind people like you, Jan, Lori, the Historical Society, most of the CHC,( although very disappointed in de Haan and Banda) along with a host of city folks who have deticated their lives to perserving the historical integrity of our community. God bless you all, and know it is much apprciated. The Chamber should take a good long look at Ms .Franks, or the citizens of SJC will, she can bet on it. Just no fair to the chamber business people who pay to play by the rules. Support for the Chamber will suffer.

Still looking for Rhonda deHaan resignation from the CHC.. Not because I don't agree with her vote, but, because she did not up-hold her duties as a CHC Commissioner... Their mission is " to function as an advisory body in matters related to culture, heritage and history of our city". There are five areas in which the city clearly defines this, de Haan chose to ignore 1. and 3. Political pressure clearly ruled her decision, why she should not be on the Commission and resign.
