Would you like a letter published at Patch? We've had an uptick of requests lately (yea and thanks!). Patch lets you publish directly to the front page (not unlike making a Facebook post and about as easy). So if you have something you want to share, just go here: http://sanjuancapistrano.patch.com/boards. If you also include a photo (see the camera icon to the lower left of the box), I may repost it to the left side of the page (bigger, too), as I've done this particular post. Chose the "speak out" board and you're done.

Hey Penny, your patch is very fun and informative to read, and I used to enjoy responding to stories, but as you have seen I no longer post. The angry mob has in my opinion taken over the patch with one sided very ANGRY and very personal postings buy the same few. You continue to be fair to both sides, but the ANGRY few who are destroying the city from the inside out, and keeping business out and not coming in don't seem to see what they are doing and have done. I have spoken to a few of them directly this past week, but they don't hear anything but themselves. Continue the fight for SJC.

Thanks for your comments, Bill! That the town is more divided and comments more heated is probably to be expected during a recall attempt. Lines have been drawn. No room for compromise at this point and time. It will cycle through.

Why so angry, Alberto? Explain.
Jonathan Volzke January 20, 2014 at 07:10 PM
Penny, I know it's not your decision, but I'll repeat -- the anonymous comments foster an irresponsible debate. Folks take personal potshots at Bill and others, while hiding behind screen names. I've stopped posting because it just seemed ... silly. I agree with Bill that you're fair and do a great job, but the debates with anonymous folks just doesn't make sense. I'm glad letters to the editor have to be signed.

Jonathan Volzke, please. Bill Odel does not even use his correct name. Geez Jonathan, just in the past year residents had to get a TRO against the City to protect our Constitutional rights. The City lost a lawsuit regarding water rates that you said was not going to be lost multiple times. The City has been slapped with a 30 million claim for the illegal water rates which I am guessing will end up in a class action lawsuit. The City lost another appeal regarding the lawsuit with Dan Friess. All this Jonathan just in the past year. Who is the common denominator in all if this Jonathan? Sam Allevato and no one else. Yes, Jonathan you campaigned for Sam Allevato door to door. I am sorry you feel that it is ok to violate our U.S. And State Constitutional rights. I don't feel it ok.
Jonathan Volzke January 21, 2014 at 12:28 AM
Clint, get off your high horse. Bill Odelson is clearly Bill Odel. He's identified his business -- as have you. Nothing in my post had anything to do with all you want to spout off about -- it was about anonymous people bagging on people here. I have always respected when you use your name. As for Sam, yes I campaigned for him, and I will campaign for him every chance I get. Running a city is far more complex than you know, and it's easy to criticize without solutions. I'm sorry the voters didn't think you were fit to elect, or you'd know it first hand. No leader goes without mistakes, no leader goes without criticism. Sam (along with Larry and John) will get my vote every time.
Jonathan Volzke January 21, 2014 at 10:13 AM
Clint, you're spewing again. This is a forum about letters to the editor. Joe Tait hasn't worked here in how long? Sam was re-elected by SJC voters since he worked here, I believe.
Clint Worthington January 21, 2014 at 10:45 AM
Jonathan Volzke, wrong again. Just answering your misinformed statements. It is called a rebuttal and can be found in most sections entitled Letter to the Editor. As a former newspaper publisher, I am sorry that you are not aware of it. Best of luck to you.
bill odel January 21, 2014 at 11:54 AM
not that I care what Clint thinks, but the reason I use Bill Odel is that my last name is often messed up by people. I use Bill Odel all the time when making reservations at restaurants, etc. Its just easier than getting in the discussion on spelling. My last name was made up on Ellis Island when my grandfather came over. It used to be Doodlezock, so Bill Odel works for me.
Jonathan Volzke January 21, 2014 at 01:35 PM
What I'm not aware of, Clint, is how you think going off about Joe Tait is a "rebuttal" to my post about anonymous posters on blogs. I'm well aware of rebuttals. Come to think of it, I've never seen one in three years of reading Common Sense. Doesn't sound like a newspaper to me.
Clint Worthington January 21, 2014 at 02:22 PM
Bill Odel, I certainly respect the challenges in pronouncing a name as it happens to myself constantly. However, it is my name. In your case, you are hiding behind a screen name which is what Jonathan was speaking of.
Clint Worthington January 21, 2014 at 02:26 PM
Jonathan Volzke, it is the City Manager who runs the City. It was Sam Allevato who voted to pay Joe Tait $324,000 a year to run the City. I could not tell you about Community Common Sense. You would need to ask them.
Jonathan Volzke January 21, 2014 at 02:29 PM
Sure, Clint. Thanks.
Clint Worthington January 21, 2014 at 02:33 PM
Are you saying the City Manager does not run the City ?
Joanna Clark January 26, 2014 at 12:45 AM
I agree with Jonathan, Penny, the use of Anonymous or fictitious screen names does little to promote constructive debate. We may not agree on the various issues, but the reality is that those who seek to hide their identity from others seldom have anything meaningful to contribute.

Some people feel safter using a pen name. Some do it because they have a business and do not want their comments to offend a client or customer. Some do it to harass and stir the pot; to get people riled up. This is frustrating. When I realize I am communicating to one of these trolls, I just ignore them now. Just do not respond. Or use one word. The point; do not waste your rhetoric on a troll who is just here to rabble rouse. My new tact is to pass them by. In the case of a community resident, and you can tell who they are by their comments, blog away.

LOL, thanks for your humbleness!
