Traffic situation

Late afternoon on May 31, 2014, it took me approximately 25 minutes to drive one mile from my home in San Juan Capistrano to the downtown area. When I got to the intersection of Del Obispo and Camino Capistrano, sheriff's cars were blocking the left turn lane, not allowing cars to turn onto Camino Capistrano. Needless to say, I and many others were late to our event. A couple of weeks ago, it took us 15 minutes to drive from our house to the downtown area. What is going on? We have lived here for thirty years and are sad to see the traffic increasing so horribly. There is really no reasonable alternative for us than to take Del Obispo through town.

I'm not certain why the Sheriff's Department had cars blocking the left turn lane. There was nothing going on that I could tell...no accidents and things on Camino Capistrano were operating as usual, with tourists walking up and down the street, but not crowded. It may have had something to do with the lights. I believe that I read a few years back that we'd gotten funding to coordinate the lights on Del Obispo. What happened to that? It is badly needed. I also don't see the sense in the red light at the train tracks stopping traffic as frequently as it does. As I watched the traffic, it was obvious that the flow was hindered by the timing of the lights.

One reason for traffic...all the PRIVATE schools catering to those who DON'T live in our town. Go build in your OWN town.

You don't mind those tax dollars though do you?

Tax dollars are not derived directly from a school or a church.

That day the left turn light was not working at all and we were stopped at the crosswalk. My young son driving with only a couple years experience was in a quandary as to what to do. I explained more than once that whatever we had to do would be "against the law" so just wait for a break in traffic and just turn left as that is what we were positioned for. FINALLY he took Dad's advice and turned but not before The Idiot behind us drove around on the right blowing the horn. Thanks a lot. Best not drive through downtown SJC in the afternoon if you're the impatient type.
