What Exactly Is a 'Blonde Moment?'

You've heard the jokes and maybe even used the phrase yourself, but what does it really mean to have such a moment? Read on.

Q: Why did the blonde try and steal a police car?
A: On the back she saw "911" and thought it was a Porsche.

Unless you live under a rock or just don't get out much, you've heard the phrase, "I'm having a blonde moment."  You've also probably heard or told your fair share of blonde jokes at some point in your life, right? Did you know there are entire web sites dedicated to blonde jokes like the one above?

Even though I am blonde, I've never really taken offense to the phrase nor took much stock in the other phrase: "Blondes have more fun."

I'm sure, whether you are a blonde, brunette, redhead or a silver fox; you've also had your own blonde moment. I know I have and recently, I had a real doozy. So much so, that I had to give in and say, "I had a blonde moment."

Where or Where?

Ever since I surpassed my 39th birthday my eyesight has steadily gone downhill. Sure, I can see miles ahead of me and can read street signs, but up close, forget it.

About four years ago, I had to get fitted for prescription glasses. I didn't mind because they ultimately were going to help me see what I was doing especially in terms of typing. I mean how many times can you type the word public, and leave the 'L' out right? That's another story.

Last week, I misplaced my glasses. Usually I can find them in a few minutes, maybe an hour at most before I stumble on them someplace.

However, for three days, my $200 glasses disappeared. They seemed to have walked off on their own accord never to be found and just when I needed them most. This is why I hate spending that much on a pair of glasses was all I thought.

In between cursing, I took my wise mother's advice and "backtracked," "sidetracked," and basically looked everywhere I had been in the course of three days. Clothes were thrown into heaps, dog toys pulled apart, cupboards and closets ransacked.

The car seats moved and moved again, the garage ... the wash machine ... on and on it went for three days.

I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to shell out another $200 for a new pair of glasses since these were not going rise to the occasion.

On the third day, and for no real reason, I opened up the dishwasher. Lo and behold, there they were! Yep, just standing straight up in the dirty silverware tray sidled up next to the dirty forks and smeared peanut butter knives.

Yes, I had a blonde moment.

How the heck they landed in the dishwasher is anybody's guess. I asked my dog Gabby if she put them there, all while scolding her, but she just tilted her head in confusion.

I got no answer, but then again, she's blonde, too.

Have you had a blonde moment you want to share? Please do so, that way, I won't feel like such an idiot for sharing or maybe even reaching for a bottle of hair dye.

LOL!!!!! Poor Gabby!! I love the tilted-head-question-mark face:)) I have a blonde moment a day, sometimes twice! Glad you found your glasses but losing them for 3 days is a long time when you use them a lot. I am always misplacing my keys and phone-I almost need a second cell phone to call the first phone to hear it ring and find it. But then I can only imagine the insanity a second phone would bring! LOL!!

Great column Debbie! I can totally relate ;) I am a brunette and have blonde moments daily, my husband gets a kick out of the things I come up with! And poor Gabby, I can just picture her little face as you were scolding her, glad you found them.

Nice to know that brunettes also have "blonde moments," now I don't feel so bad.

Where do I start? Being blonde, it's hard to decide. I've never lived down the day I was walking with a friend (a blonde, but more reddish blonde) at Doheny Beach. She saw a dead bird and commented, "Oh, a dead bird." Being blonde, I looked up!
