Update: SigAlert Lifted for Tipped Big Rig on South I-5

A truck flipped onto its side near Cristianitos in San Clemente early Monday, CHP says. Three lanes were closed for nearly four hours.

A yellow big rig tipped over Monday morning, snarling traffic on the south 5 Freeway for more than four hours.

Two people sustained minor injuries in the crash.

At about 5:30 a.m., a 1999 freightliner struck a Honda Civic that was involved in a crash just a few minutes earlier, according to Eric Barnard, a California Highway Patrol officer.

The drivers of each vehicle, a 26-year-old San Clemente man and a 46-year-old Whittier man, were taken to Saddleback Hospital in San Clemente, Barnard said.

The causes of the crashes are still under investigation.

A SigAlert was issued around 5:45 a.m. and was lifted at 10 a.m. The Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes of the south 5 Freeway were closed at Cristianitos Road in San Clemente.
