Agents Nab 10 Pounds of Meth on I-5

The Border Patrol busts a suspected drug smuggler at the San Clemente checkpoint.

U.S. Border Patrol agents nabbed 10 pounds of methamphetamine Thursday at the I-5 checkpoint south of San Clemente.

At 1:30 p.m., agents at the I-5 checkpoint stopped a 25-year-old male Mexican national driving a 2004 Ford Focus. When the agents brought out a drug dog to inspect the car, the animal signaled detection of hidden drugs, according to a release from the Border Patrol.

Five bundles found jammed behind the left and right rear quarter panels yielded 10.14 pounds, worth $202,800 on the street, the release said.

Agents turned the suspect and drugs over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Border Patrol Seized the vehicle.
