U.S. Border Patrol agents Thursday stopped a U.S. citizen attempting to smuggle 200 pounds of marijuana.
At 6 p.m., they stopped a 22-year-old man at the 5 Freeway checkpoint just south of San Clemente. He acted nervous, according to a press release from the Border Patrol, so they pulled him over and brought out a drug dog.
The animal sniffed out large bales of marijuana stored in the 2013 Ford Mustang.
The nine bundles of marijuana weighed 196.3 pounds and had an estimated street value of $294,450, according to the Border Patrol.
