CHP Reports Fewer DUI Arrests during Christmas Holiday

But the holiday reporting period was shorter this year when compared to last year, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The California Highway Patrol made fewer DUI arrests this year than last year statewide and in Orange County during the Christmas holiday, officials reported.

Between Tuesday at 6 p.m. and midnight Wednesday, the CHP made nine arrests in Orange County. Last year 72 people were arrested during the Christmas holiday, but the holiday reporting period in 2012 was for a five day period and this year the holiday reporting period was only for two days, CHP spokesman Robert Catano said.

There were no fatalities reported this year or in 2012.

Statewide, DUI arrests declined for this time period from 1170 in 2012 to 221 in 2013. But again the holiday reporting period was shorter this year when compared to 2012.

Across the state five deaths were reported during the Christmas holiday, compared to 39 statewide last year during the holiday reporting period.
