A Laguna Niguel man was charged today with trying to kill his hospital 91-year-old roommate this week by suffocation.

The Orange County District Attorney’s office has charged Ibrahim Yousef Batta, 36, with one count of attempted murder and one count of felony elder abuse and could face additional time on his sentence for premeditation and deliberation ,along with causing great bodily injury to an elder.

The incident happened about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday at Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center, according to a D.A. press release. Nurses and a patient in another room entered Batta’s room to find him allegedly covering the unnamed victim’s nose and mouth.

In addition, Batta is accused of repeatedly punching the 91-year-old and causing him to suffer a broken finger, major cuts to his head and hand, and eye swelling.

If convicted, Battat faces a maximum sentence of 10 years to life in state prison. He is being held on $1 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 27 in Westminster.

Anyone who tries to kill someone has evil intent. It doesn't matter what background they came from, God gave them a brain and a heart to think and reason, even if they are " ill", there isn't much of an excuse. There are many more sick people who would not do that. I don't feel sorry for this guy, he needs to go to jail or be confined somewhere. There have even been those who have used " sick" as an excuse to cover their true intent.

I think his smug look will be wiped off his face when He goes to the Gray Bar Hotel and his room mates find out what he did. The one thing I know is elderly inmates are given more respect than people on the out side give them. They will accept a child molester quicker than a elder abuser. And most child molesters are hated with a passion in the big house.

As much as I would like to see Batta Batta (love that mimmie). He does deserve a fair and just trial. That horrible person that he seems to be. The justice system is the second form of victimization if he "Yousef" gets a high dollar lawyer. But justice will prevail either here or in the next life.
