Deputy Pulls Suicidal Teen from Roof

Deputy prevents 14-year-old girl with a noose around her neck from jumping.

An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was able to grab a local teenager before she jumped off a residential roof with a noose around her neck Sunday night, Lt. John Meyer said.

A deputy had been called to a house in the 29000 block of Edgewood Road at about 6 p.m. to take a report about a runaway 14-year-old girl, when neighbors spotted the girl at the edge of the roof.

Meyer said she had a rope around her neck that was tied around a metal roof vent. The mom had reported that her daughter may be suicidal.

A deputy approached the girl on the rooftop, he said.

“He edged his way over to her on the roof before she was able to jump off,” Meyer said. The deputy then grabbed her by the torso, pulled the noose off and passed her off to a waiting deputy below.
