Identifying Fatal Capo Beach Crash Victims to Take Longer than Expected

It will take a few days longer than expected to identify the bodies of two people killed on Pacific Coast Highway Sunday, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.

A 43-year-old male driver and a 32-year-old female passenger were killed Sunday and three people suffered moderate injuries in a four-car crash on a beachfront road in Capistrano Beach.

The driver who died may have been drinking, a Sheriff's lieutenant said Monday.

The 43-year-old man behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Jetta was trying to pass a 15-year-old student driver in a Mini Cooper northbound when the Volkswagen crashed into a southbound van, Lt. Jeff Hallock said. That stretch of Coast Highway is one lane in each direction.
