Local Firefighters To Help with Hurricane Sandy Recovery

Three Orange County Fire Authority firefighters went east to help with the Hurricane Sandy response.

Three Orange County Fire Authority firefighters have gone to the East Coast to help with Hurricane Sandy response and relief efforts, a fire captain said today.

One firefighter left Monday and two others headed east on Sunday to help with managing the response and relief teams, OCFA Capt. Marc Stone said.

A ``large amount'' of volunteers from across the nation also headed to the East Coast to help, so the Federal Emergency Management Agency asked OCFA to provide some help with managing the teams, Stone said.

A battalion chief was sent to Washington, D.C., to work as a branch director on a support team, one fire captain is working as a ``logistics specialist'' in New Jersey, and a paramedic is doing the same task in Virginia, Stone said.

I grew up on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. Sandcastles, swimming, working and of course the bar hopping. A lot of memories washed away with mother nature's fury. Prayers go out to everyone to be safe.

Can you tell us who the firefighters are? I'd like to acknowledge them on my Facebook page ... Jersey Strong - Coast to Coast.
