Two minors reportedly shot at and chased a 31-year-old San Juan Capistrano man Monday night when he refused to give them a cigarette.

The call came in to 911 shortly before 11 p.m. The man reported he was walking home along the 31000 block of Los Rios Street when two boys asked him for a cigarette. He refused, and as he walked ahead, one of the boys shot at him, said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Roland Chacon.

He started running toward his apartment, and as he got to the door, one of the youths hit him in the head with the butt of the gun, the man told police.
