UPDATE: Road Rage Shooting on Ortega Highway

One motorist allegedly shoots another east of the Orange County line. An arrest is made.

An apparent episode of road rage erupted into a shooting on Ortega Highway east of Orange County, officials said.

Michael Lloyd Economides, 37, was booked Friday night on charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. The Wildomar resident was jailed on $1-million bail, records show.

Michael Lloyd Economides, 37, was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to sheriff's officials.

Before the incident, Economides nearly slammed head-on into a westbound vehicle on Ortega, according to a witness who contacted Patch.

"He was completely out of control coming down the Ortega Highway," said the witness, who asked not to be identified.

After Economides and another motorist pulled off the road 2 miles above Lake Elsinore, he allegedly shot the other motorist in the chest, Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Todd Pauling said.

The other motorist, who was not identified, and a passenger had both approached Economides as he sat in his car moments before the gunshot rang out, Pauling said.

Economides fled but was later found in a school parking lot on Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore, Pauling said. Readers contacted Patch to say other drivers chased the suspect after the shooting, finding him in the school lot, where he was arrested at gunpoint.

The alleged victim was taken to an area hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Non-Life threatening! My brother has two tubes draining his chest, a tube draining his lungs, a tube in his mouth to pump his lungs and hole in his throat. He is on heavy sedation and is swollen head to toe. There were three gun shots. The other two were aimed at my other brothers face. He escaped those bullets only by the grace of God.

Damn bro sorry to hear about that. SO what exactly happened? They say 'it takes two to tango" so what caused the guy to start shooting?

According to what's written in this article, it doesn't appear your brother is a victim of a crime. He was approaching another vehicle. What were his intentions? Obviously the shooter feared for his own safety as anyone might in that situation.

Obviously, there is more to this story....the picture shows that evidently, there was also a physical altercation. Just goes to show, you should not just rely on Internet news to cover the complete story. Seems as though no one practices good, accurate journalism anymore!!

The shooter is not a victim. He initiated the altercation by throwing his water bottle at the victim's car. Now a 19 year old kid has to pay the price by likely not being able to fully recover with a hole in his lung. May the justice system rightfully take care of this unforgivable discretion. Thoughts & prayers with the true victim of whom paid was undeservingly attacked because a likely mentally ill man took his anger way too far. I couldn't imagine a man in good mental health to act childish enough to let road rage take control, throw a water bottle @ someone else's car, and try to kill a teen. Please pray for this teen, he deserves a chance to redeem his life.

and this 19 year old kid wasn't riding up the ass of this guy? Sorry not buying this story. Why would these two brothers pull over behind him unless they had planned to do some harm to him? I guess that water bottle did a lot of damage? Shooters the victim here, 19 year old is the childish one with mental issues.

"The other motorist, who was not identified, and a passenger had both approached Economides as he sat in his car moments before the gunshot rang out, Pauling said." Why did the both of you pull over and get out of the car to confront this guy when he pulled over unless you were looking for a fight? What were you trying to prove? Maybe to avenge a "perceived" wrong? Teach Economides some "respect"? I hope his "respect" was worth those lead suppositories.

Guess he shouldn't have gotten out of his car to willfully engage in an altercation with someone. You obviously physically attacked him. Maybe next time you morons won't think your bad assess. Yeah and I'm sure God took time out of his busy schedule of not existing to save your brother's life.

Michael is innocent... Those kids should not have tried to run him off the road. Ari and his brother both deserved to be shot. Those kids are trouble makers! Now my ex-boyfriend is in jail. We are all waiting for Mike to get the hell outta there. He should be home with his family.
