With a woman threatening to jump from an overpass, police closed the I-5 freeway in both directions for a half-hour in San Clemente around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The unidentified woman had threatened to jump from the Avenida Mendocino overpass, Lt. Gary Strachan said. She has since been talked down and is unharmed.
The woman has been arrested and will be given a psychological evaluation, Strachan said.
At 9:26 a.m., police received a call about a woman threatening to jump from the freeway overpass. California Highway Patrol stopped traffic from Chrisanitos to El Camino Real on the I-5.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department has officers specially trained in negotiations. They were called out, Strahan said, but the woman had already been talked down by the time they arrived.
