Shh! Valentines Headed North

Students, families and staff members at Del Obispo collect valentines for the rescue workers who saved Kelli Groves and her two daughters in January.

The Jan. 11 accident about 35 miles north of Santa Barbara , as firefighters, CHP officers and a battalion of Navy SeaBees stuck in the ensuing traffic worked to reach Groves and daughters, Sage, 10, and Mylo, then 10 weeks old, while their car teetered halfway off a bridge, 100 feet over a creek.

A first-grade teacher at Del Obispo, Groves has yet to speak publicly about the accident which took the life of a big-rig trucker. Law enforcement officials have since determined that Charles Allison, Jr. of Grover Beach was on drugs at the time and caused the accident.

The valentines have been collecting in the Del Obispo office. Sage is also a student at Del Obispo, and with brother Wylder, the three would often walk to school from their San Juan Capistrano home.
