Small Vegetation Fire in San Juan Capistrano Prompts a Horse Evacuation

A strong response from firefighters kept the burn area to a minimum.

A small vegetation fire was reported in San Juan Capistrano today, but firefighters kept the burn area to a minimum.

The call came in at 2:33 p.m., said Capt. Mike Summers of the Orange County Fire Authority. The fire was in an area of about 50 feet-by-50 feet near Paseo Tirador and Calle Arroyo.

About 40 firefighters responded, and the fire was contained by 3:15 p.m., having only consumed an area of about 100 feet-by-100 feet, Summers said.

Karen Schumaker caught a photo as she was passing by. She saw horses being moved from Ortega Equestrian Center.
