San Juan Capistrano deputies caught a wanted man after a foot chase Tuesday night that ended at the shopping center at Alipaz and Del Obispo streets.

Events unfolded about 9:30 p.m. when deputies spotted a 1999 Nissan Altima in the 31000 block of Del Obispo with some sort of light malfunction, said Lt. John Meyer, chief of police services for San Juan Capistrano.

After pulling over at Sam’s Liquor, however, the suspect, Candelario Segura-Sanchez, 32, didn’t address the deputies.

He ran.

Deputies ended up tackling him in front of Cancun Restaurant, Meyer said.

“Segura-Sanchez said later in an interview that he ran because he recognized the deputy from a an earlier arrest one year ago that put him in jail and caused him to be deported,” Meyer said. “He also said he did not have a driver's license and had warrants out for his arrest.”

Meyer said the warrant was in connection with an allegation of driving under the influence.

Segura-Sanchez remains in custody in lieu of $28,078 bail.
