Theft Gone Awry, Man Takes Swipe with Boxcutters

A man is being escorted by loss prevention agents at Rite Aid when he takes a violent turn.

A in San Juan Capistrano was the scene of police action Saturday shortly after noon.

A 32-year-old man went into the store and took a prepaid cell phone off the rack, according to Lt. Gary Strachan of the Orange County Sheriff's Dept.

The man then went to another part of the store and cut open the cell phone with a pair of boxcutters.

As the man tried to exit the premises, he was detained by two loss prevention agents. That's when it got interesting.

While he was being escorted by the agents in the store, the man allegedly swung the boxcutters at the men, who grabbed his arm and relieved him of the weapon.

No one was hurt in the incident. The man was taken to Orange County Jail.

The store is located in the 32000 block of Camino Capistrano.
