Woman Hit, Killed Running Down I-5

The 52-year-old passenger jumps out of a vehicle and is hit by freeway traffic north of Crown Valley Parkway.

A woman passenger who hopped out of a car and ran alongside the carpool lane on Interstate 5 was struck and killed around 9 a.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The 52-year-old Huntington Beach woman had been riding in a northbound vehicle near Crown Valley Parkway, CHP Officer Chris Goodwin said. She left the car as traffic slowed and ran to the center divider.

After climbing over the median, the woman ran alongside the carpool lane in the opposite direction, Goodwin said. She was running on the center shoulder, a space about 6 feet wide that divides the carpool lane from the median, he said.

As she sprinted north, "she ran out into the carpool lane in front of a Honda Pilot" and was struck head-on, the officer said.

She later died at Mission Hospital.

The incident is being investigated as a possible suicide, Goodwin said.

The three left lanes on the south 5, including the carpool lane, were shut down for about an hour, Goodwin said.

The driver of the vehicle pulled off the freeway and was soon after contacted by CHP, he said.

The Orange County Coroner's Office would not release the woman's identity pending notification of her next of kin.

The CHP is looking for witnesses. Anyone who saw the incident is encouraged to call Officer Eric Barnard at 949-487-4000.

I'm not mad at all. I believe you're projecting. But, tell ya what...I won't reply argumentatively to anyone who doesn't reply argumentatively to me. Oh, wait...that's what I ALREADY do. In fact, I make a practice of responding in similar fashion to others. If you notice, my original comment was not directed at any one individual, just my questions about the incident itself. Robyn C was the first to "start a fight"...not I. And now you've joined in, Andrea. So following your train of logic, you must enjoy engaging "fights on the Internet"? If you, or anyone, unfairly criticizes the content of my posts, particularly when my questions were sincere and authentic, without malice or intention of offending anyone, then YOU (plural) are the ones "starting a fight"! Now back to Linda Von Trapp, as with anyone who commits suicide, I wonder if she had been feeling suicidal for a while leading up to the incident, and if so, if those closest to her recognized this and were attempting to help her.

Ok, thank you, Audrey. I appreciate your clarification.

You know, I had to go back and reread your "Kettle" comment to try and see from where you were coming when you made that comment. Are you under the impression that "I" (and possibly Shaun Johnson) have been opposing the comments of others who are speculating on the content of this article?? If so (and because I'm finding it difficult to understand what else you could have meant by that "Kettle" comment), you are gravely mistaken and I encourage you to read back farther in the thread. In my case, it is just the opposite. Others have rudely opposed my "speculation", and in turn, I was pointing out their flaws in not following their own rules. But for some reason, I still doubt you'd understand this.

Common sense tells us that this woman was likely trying to get AWAY from the driver of this car. Makes me wonder why you would so quickly side with the driver. Freeways are scary. Only a very distraught person would jump onto one. Therefore i have to respond that YOUR comment does NOT make much sense at this time....

Les, who's siding with the driver? I believe they are saying poor driver to the person who hit and killed the woman.
