Capo Unified Candidate Statement: Jim Reardon

Candidate wants a change in leadership at CUSD.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Patch is running each Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees candidate's statement on file with the county Registrar of Voters office on consecutive days. One candidate, Don Franklin Richardson, did not file a candidate's statement. Trustee Area No. 2 covers Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch and parts of San Juan Capistrano.

NAME: Jim Reardon

OCCUPATION: Business Owner/Engineer

The current CUSD Board of Trustees has reduced the school year, cut teachers and increased class size. We can’t afford another “all cuts” budget. Now more than ever, our school board must focus on education and not union contracts that protect senior staff.

A change in leadership is needed. Together we can put students first.

I’m a parent, engineer, active business owner and a founder of a successful educational nonprofit. I am able to see past the heated rhetoric of education insiders to protect our students and schools. I favor classroom reform, school choice, local control and program improvement.

I will fight for:

Smaller class sizes,

A quality education for all students, and

Retention of enrichment, vocational and sports programs.

Your tax dollars cannot be wasted. I promise never to vote for a tax increase or extension. WE pay enough tax and Mello-Roos assessments already.

To improve transparency between CUSD and community, we will begin broadcasting our school board meetings. Parents have a right to know how decisions are being made.

Elect me, Jim Reardon, to your school board.

Capo Mom, No, my husband did not give it to him. How ever Jim Reardon obtained my e-mail address he sent an e-mail this morning promoting Ms. McCarthy and Mr. Byrnes for San Juan Capistrano city council. Mr. Reardon is running for CUSD school board and is supposed to support all children and their parents.Have you ever read Common Sense? Read it sometime. Did you read Kim McCarthy's letter to CUSD. Read it. Here is something from the Capistrano Dispatch that Kim McCarthy wrote, "“So, if you are wondering why you see so many pregnant Latinas and male Latinos not at work, with their well-dressed, well-fed, well-accessorized families, driving their new SUV’s or trucks around town, now you will understand. They come over the border, move in with their families, put their kids in school, are fed breakfast and lunch virtually for free, then they are directed to CHEC who hooks them up with tax-payer funded money and services galore.” Capistrano Dispatch, Kim McCarthy, April 24, 2009. Read her guest opinions. I urge everyone to read these things for themselves. This is the person that Mr. Reardon who is running for school board to represent all of our children is promoting for San Juan Capistrano city council.

Capo Mom, Kim McCarthy's opinion is appalling to me and scary.

Mr. Reardon is sending e-mails to my house in support of Kim McCarthy. Mr. Reardon is running for CUSD school board. Who he promotes, supports and associates with is very pertinent to voters.

Thanks for the link to Kim McCarthy.

Dan Avery, there's a typo in my statement. I meant to ask why would he NOT be the one to vote for if you wanted to shake up the system and get better education for CUSD? I'm still scratching my head at your statement. Reardon is not a current trustee. He has absolutely nothing to do with CUSD being ranked 113 in the state. He's a major voice against the policies of the majority board. So if you were in favor of change, you'd vote for Reardon. That's why I don't understand your statement.
