Capistrano Couple Drops Lawsuit Over At-Home Bible Studies

In a statement, Chuck Fromm said he expects the city to correct its policies on religious, fraternal and community organization gatherings in residential zones.

A lawsuit against the city over at-home bible studies was dropped this week.

San Juan Capistrano's city manager announced Friday that Chuck and Stephanie Fromm have "stepped back" from an appeal filed in Orange County Superior Court that challenged citations for hosting religious gatherings at their Mission Hills home without proper permits.

"The Fromms stepped back from their appeal as the city has initiated discussions to review [its] permit policies for home meetings of all types," the city said in a statement. "The original fines have been reversed and repaid to the Fromms."

after a neighbor complained about traffic and parking problems in the neighborhood during the weekly gatherings.

"I expect--and prefer--any remaining issues will be resolved by community dialogue and policy correction rather than through the courts," Chuck Fromm, the publisher of Worship Leader magazine, said in the statement. "My wife and I will remain vigilant throughout the process."
