City Gets Full Refund for Disappointing Fireworks Show

San Juan Capistrano paid $29,000 for the 4th of July display that many said was lacking.

The city of San Juan Capistrano got a full refund from the contractor who put on what many called a disappointing fireworks show this 4th of July.

Cathy Salcedo, a spokeswoman for the city, said Bay Fireworks has issued a full refund. Bay Fireworks was also the contractor behind the disastrous show that injured nearly 30 people  north of Los Angeles injured 36 people on July 4.

Locals complained that there were too many delays during the show and many people left before the finale.

The city paid $29,000 for the display, with most of that money coming from sponsors, city officials have said.

Salcedo said the 2013 sponsors have decided the city should hold onto the refund and use it to pay for the 2014 display.
