Council Kills Design Committee

To streamline the process of new businesses starting up or expanding in San Juan Capistrano, the City Council eliminated the Design Review Committee, a detail-oriented step in the development process.

On Tuesday, the council heard from several business leaders about how time-consuming it is to answer to the tastes of the design committee, then turn around and try to appeal to the Planning Commission, which may have a different sense of style.

Councilmen noted  the Design Review Committee keeps sending an architect for McDonald’s back to the drawing board.

It was also the Design Review Committee that has criticized the new color scheme at Del Taco – although, in that case, the fast food chain painted without getting permission first.
