Council to Approve Spending $86K — After the Fact

The city bought some items without a proper purchase order and hired a maintenance firm after its contract had expired.

The City Council is expected tonight to ratify more than $86,000 in spending – after the fact.

According to three separate agenda reports, the city made unauthorized purchases throughout 2012, In addition, the city continued to use the services of a contractor whose contract expired months earlier.

According to one report, in 60 separate transactions, the city bought more than $54,000 in cartridge filters and other items for the city’s groundwater recovery plant from late June 2012 to April 2013. The city is now putting out a bid for the procurement of these parts.

Another $8,377 was spent in December replacing three chemical feed pumps for the groundwater recovery plant without an approved purchase order, says another staff report to the City Council.

According to yet another report, contractor ABM Building Solutions received nearly $23,000 for preventative and emergency mechanical maintenance after its contract expired. The city has stopped using this company and has put the contract out to bid.
