Last Chance: Things You Gotta Do the Week of April 23

Serve on an oversight committee or apply for a charter school.

Today, Monday, April 23 — Last day to apply for a seat on the city’s Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee. With the passage of Measure M in 1990 and its renewal in 2006, an oversight committee was mandated by the Orange County electorate to keep a close watch on the transportation funds generated by the half-cent sales tax, which is administered by the Orange County Transportation Authority.

As a member of the Taxpayers Oversight Committee, you will ensure the transportation projects specified in Measure M are built as promised. Currently, there is one opening for each of the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Supervisoral Districts on the 11-person committee. Any Orange County citizen living in these districts may apply to serve on the committee for a three-year term. This is a volunteer position and no monetary compensation will be paid to committee members.

Elected or appointed city, district, state or federal officials are not eligible to serve on the TOC. The online application can be accessed here. All applications must be submitted no later than April 23.
