Library's La Sala Reopens After Repairs

CITY MANAGER'S REPORT: Also, the dog park, Reata Park, replacement of three pumps and an anti-tobacco program.

LA SALA REOPENS: The Community Services Department is happy to announce that the rehabilitation construction on the La Sala Auditorium was completed and all users have been using the building since Jan. 13. Great job to our Public Works Department for overseeing the project and getting finished on schedule! The facility is now open for rentals. SAN DIEGO GAS AND ELECTRIC UPGRADE PROJECT: On Jan. 9, the city received the “notice of preparation” from the California Public Utility Commission for the preparation of the environmental impact report for the project in accordance with state law. Members of the City Council, staff, and public attended the EIR scoping meetings at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center and in San Clemente, heard a presentation, provided oral comments, and the city attorney submitted a comment letter. The City Council will receive the comment letter and discuss the project at its Feb. 5 meeting.

DR. JOE CORTESE DOG PARK:  The Open Space Foundation has begun construction of the 2-acre dog park in the Northwest Open Space area and plans to complete improvements by late spring/early summer 2013.

REATA PARK AND EVENT CENTERThe Open Space Foundation has begun construction of the park fencing and is in plan check for a demolition permit to include removal of four buildings, trees, contaminated soil and asbestos. Construction drawings are estimated to be complete in late February for plan check.

DEL OBISPO STREET BRIDGE WIDENING: In the past week, the contractor graded the proposed landscape areas along the south side of Del Obispo Street east of Alipaz Street, and along the west side of Paseo Adelanto south of Del Obispo. Workers installed irrigation lines, added truncated domes at handicap ramps, and installed some fencing to the fence poles. The project is expected to be completed in February 2013.

REPLACEMENT OF THREE WELL PUMPS: We are waiting on final documentation from the selected pump company. We expect to issue a purchase order the week of January 28, 2013, for the replacement of the Tirador, Kinoshita, and SJBA4 pumps.

MODIFICATIONS TO THE REVERSE OSMOSIS FEED PUMPS: We are finalizing the Professional Service Agreements for the steel work and the pump work and expect to issue the purchase order for the steel fabrication work and pump work the week of Jan. 28.

ANTI-TOBACCO PROGRAM:  The Youth Advisory Board has big plans for the year 2013. After holding its first meeting of the year on Jan. 14, the board voted to work again with America on Track and their Youth Tobacco Prevention Project. The project is designed to keep tobacco out of the hands of minors. The program will commence in February.
