San Juan Capistrano Gets a New Top Planner

We've been without a permanent development services director since late April.

San Juan Capistrano has a new boss in charge of development in the city.

Charlie View has been selected as San Juan Capistrano’s new development services director, City Manager Karen Brust announced today. He replaces Grant Taylor, who resigned his position in late April.

View has 28 years of experience in planning, according to Brust. He has worked for the city of Brea since 2002, where he served in both the development services director and the public works director positions.

Before that, View also worked for 17 years for Santa Ana in various planning and development services management roles.

A California native, View received his bachelor of arts degree in geography from California State University Dominguez Hills and his master’s in public administration from California State University Fullerton.  He’s also an active member in several professional organizations, including the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Brust said View will be an asset, especially with his extensive amount of experience in the field.

“Charlie has the necessary experience and knowledge to lead our development services team; he's the perfect addition to the city," said Brust. "We look forward to his expertise here."

View begins his new post Friday with a starting salary of $155,648, plus benefits, and will contribute 100 percent of the employee’s share of the enhanced retirement benefit with the Orange County Employees’ Retirement System. Nelson Miller has been the interim director since Taylor left.
