The Bridge-Widening that Will Not End

The City Council is set to extend the contracts for the Del Obispo Street and bridge-widening project through to the end of the year.

The widening of Del Obispo Street – expected to be completed last year – may not be completed until the end of this year.

On the San Juan Capistrano City Council agenda is the fifth change to the contractor’s agreements since the City Council approved them in April 2011.

According to an agenda item, the widening between Alipaz Street and Paseo Adelanto has been delayed because of rain, cool temperatures and a change to the plans for a maintenance road next to Trabuco Creek.

The contracts are expected to be extended through Dec. 31 and will cost the city an additional $9,000 for engineering services. The city received $3.5 million in federal funds to help pay for the widening.

The council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto in San Juan Capistrano.
