Two CUSD Trustee Races Set

A third challenger comes forward on the last day to file for the San Clemente seat. Meanwhile, two seats' filing period remains open through Aug. 15.

On the very last day, a third person has filed to run for the San Clemente representative of the Board of Trustees.

This is the first year candidates are running in their home areas. Previously, they were elected at large.

Yolanda McNamara pulled and filed her nominating papers for Trustee Area No. 3 seat, currently held by Trustee John Alpay, who is running for re-election.

McNamara identifies herself as a “CEO/business owner.” Patch could not find any other information about her.

She joins Alpay and challenger Steve Lang, owner of a roofing company, for the race. Because an incumbent is seeking re-election in this area, the period for declaring candidacy is now closed.

Two trustee areas do not have incumbents running again, and so filing period for Trustee Area No. 1 (Capo Beach, Dana Point and parts of San Juan Capistrano) and Trustee Area No. 2, (parts of San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza) will remain open through Wednesday, Aug. 15.

All other races remain unchanged. That means the campaign for Trustee Area No. 5 (Aliso Viejo) is also set, with incumbent and current board President Gary Pritchard facing challenger .

Trustee Area No. 1, retiring Trustee Jack Brick’s territory, so far has two candidates, , and .

Trustee Area No. 2 was drawn without a current incumbent residing within its boundaries. Five candidates have emerged there: San Juan Capistrano residents  and  and Ladera Ranch residents , and .

Wonder how many people even understood the first COEXIST sticker, let alone this one

Paige, I'm confused too. Just imagine how the Statue of Liberty/ Mother of Exiles must feel aboutRead More being on the sticker. Caring for our tired and poor immigrants, our tempest-tossed and huddled masses yearning to breathe free, doesn't seem to be a top priority for capitalists, after all. Maybe she should be replaced with someone else who could look like an "i"... maybe Joe the Plumber with an outstretched arm holding a plunger?

Easily as laughable as the mixed message of the effrontery of the coexist sticker... the simplestRead More explanation may be the truth.

To Cox Cable: Make sure Trumbo signs where the customer wants him to sign... Just came back fromRead More Pechanga where Mark was signing and he was signing baseballs with sharpies; not signing on the sweet spot, putting ASTERISKS (!?) after his name on jerseys; and signing helmets on the back, behind the ear flap... Don't take expensive items down there...

The City approved the plans for Del Taco many years ago. What they did not approve was the changeRead More in the color to the tiles and the change in color to the outside of the building. Those are changes to the original plans submitted by Del Taco. As the Design Review Committee pointed out, these changes are not acceptable. The City does have strict requirements regarding signs and architecture.
