Voter Turnout: What Are You Seeing?

By 1 p.m., less than 16 percent had showed up to Orange County polls. In 2008, that number was 27 percent.

Turnout at Orange County precincts is dramatically less than in 2008, according to the county Registrar of Voters.

Communicating the modern way – via tweets, of course – the agency said: “Sample turnout at 1:00pm is 15.63%. In 2008 it was 27%. VBMs have had an effect for sure. #turnout.”

VBMs is the abbreviation for vote-by-mail.

What have you seen at the polls? At 3:10 p.m. a small line was seen at Ambuehl Elementary School. At lunch time, the turnout at South Coast Assembly Church seemed light, the parking lot not crowded.
