The Villa San Juan Capistrano Rises to the Top of the Wedding Industry

The Villa San Juan Capistrano recognized by major wedding outlets.

San Juan Capistrano, CA - In 2004, John Q. Humphreys, owner of the Ramos House Cafe, had a distinct vision.

He envisioned an enchanted place, filled with lush fruit trees encompassing every corner of a handcrafted, stone courtyard. A place where the sounds of the outside world were cast aside, where one could feel peaceful and thrive in the sanctity of this magical dwelling.

At the forefront of the stone courtyard, he imagined a turn-of-the-century home, delicately held up by rustic wood, French doors, and original wooden beams that accentuated white stucco.

Inside, gold fixtures would hang gently on white walls, and kerosene lanterns would fill each room with soft lighting. A French woodworking bench would rest behind a vintage leather couch in the living room, with a wooden, grand piano playing classical music. An Italian marble tub would sit in the bathroom with dim lighting and exposed brick, and an antique Grandfather clock would tick quietly in the foyer, with a beautiful view of the old, Spanish town.

Humphreys’ vision came to life when he stumbled upon the historic Decorative Arts Villa on Camino Capistrano. He spent several years reconstructing and decorating the historical property to bring it to its current splendor.

Today, his fortress is notably known as The Villa San Juan Capistrano.

The Villa San Juan Capistrano currently serves as a unique venue for weddings and private events.

Complete with a pristine state-of-the-art kitchen, a bride’s chamber with antique mirrors and a wall-mounted clothes rack, a well-known groom’s room with a classic Brunswick pool table, and a unique Chapel, modeled after the historic Spanish town, Humphreys successfully pulled out the stops to provide a perfect haven for visitors.

Always striving for the best, Humphreys reached out to his former business partner, Lisa Wagoner, owner of Iva Lee’s in San Clemente. He asked Wagoner to become The Villa San Juan Capistrano’s exclusive, full-service caterer. The pair successfully created The Ramos House Café, located in the Historic Los Rios District, and now the two are taking on the wedding industry.

Humphreys’ visionary proclivity and Wagoner’s savvy business execution are two elements that makes The Villa San Juan Capistrano one of the most desired venues in the area.

“John and I are like peas and carrots. We worked well together as co-founders of the Ramos House Café, with all the adversity we faced building our dream restaurant and home,” said Wagoner. “We’ve been good friends for over 24 years now, and have maintained a great relationship because we have a lot of trust in each other.  I will never forget the night when El Nino hit, right after we had cut the old kitchen off, up to the roof. John and I dug a trench in the middle of the night to the sewer, to divert the water from flooding the basement. In regards to The Villa, John has created such a beautiful venue, and I am so excited to be part of it with him. Weddings are such joyful events, and it is so wonderful to be able to share in the memories.”

Now in its fourth wedding season, this alluring facility has taken guests by storm with its old world charm. Clients are able to utilize the entire property, both inside the historic house as well as the beautiful courtyard, for events. Truly unlike any event space seen, The Villa San Juan Capistrano stands out among the rest.

The Villa San Juan Capistrano has received many accolades during its short time in operation.

Named "O.C.’s coolest new wedding venue," by Riviera Magazine.

In January 2013, The Knot recognized The Villa San Juan Capistrano as one of “The Best Wedding Venues in Orange County”.

“I’m super excited that The Villa is getting the buzz it deserves,” said Venue Coordinator, Michelle Mc Gregor. “Going into our fourth wedding season and watching it grow has been so amazing. I feel that all the clients and vendors we work with have created such great accents and visions and it’s been so fun to watch each wedding evolve from beginning to end. I feel so lucky and blessed that I get to be a part of this.”

The Villa San Juan Capistrano was featured in a three-page spread in the April 2013 issue of Ceremony Magazine, and has been seen on popular wedding websites such as Style Me Pretty, The Wedding Chicks, Wedding Wire, and Green Wedding Shoes.

Humphreys’ creative vision continues to flourish in the form of an inviting and exclusive event space.
