Architect Estimates Serra High Needs $7.8 Mil in Repairs, Upgrades

While Capistrano Unified is looking at a total construction tab of $822 million, here's Serra High School's portion.

A historical building in an art deco style, Junipero Serra High School could use $7.8 million for modernization.

Included in that number are more than $2 million to replace half of the campus’s portable classrooms with permanent structures. Another $1.5 million would go toward addressing routine maintenance issues the Capistrano Unified School District has put off the past few years, including floor covering, plumbing and paving.

The total figure also includes $3.3 million for upgraded technology for students.

The school district hired an architectural firm in 2009 to assess all of the needs across its 55 schools. The report was recently updated with 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

Below is an easier-to-read legend for the photo above, which includes Del Obispo Elementary School. New construction proposed is in peach, remodels in yellow.
