Architect Says Del Obispo Elementary Needs $8 Mil for Renovations

With the school district looking at $822 million worth of construction needs at all its schools, here's Del Obispo Elementary's share.

Del Obispo Elementary could use a $8 million facelift.

So says an architectural firm the Capistrano Unified School District hired in 2009 to come up with a list of facility needs across the 55-campus district.

That report was recently updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

Del Obispo has some fire-access challenges. Currently, firefighters cannot get to 7,540 square feet of its buildings.

In addition, one or more of its classrooms do not meet the minimum standard for classroom size, which the state sets at 960 square feet.
