Architect Says Marco Forster Needs $22.7 Mil in Renovations
Of Capistrano Unified's total construction tab of $822 million, here's what would be spent at Marco Forster Middle School.
To bring Marco Forster Middle School up to modern-day standards would take $22.7 million, according to a Capistrano Unified architect.
Included in that number are a new gymnasium and $9.6 million worth of new, permanent buildings to replace half of the portable classrooms on the campus.
The total also includes more than $1 million to make repairs and do routine maintenance the district has deferred in recent years, to address such as issues as the floor covering, heating/ventilation, roofing and paving.

The figures come from a report the district commissioned in 2009 to assess the facility needs across the 55-campus district. Since then, it recently was updated for 2013 pricing. Altogether, the district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.
The 2013 figures also include $1.35 million to buy state-of-the-art technology for students.

Besides just modernization needs, Marco Forster is currently a challenge for firefighters, who cannot get adequate access to 15,042 square feet of the school’s buildings.
