Capo Unified Names Teachers of the Year in San Juan Schools

The Capistrano Unified School District on Thursday announced the top educators at each of its San Juan Capistrano campuses. They will now compete with teachers at other district campuses to be honored as one of three District Teachers of the Year.

Here are the teachers:

• Kim Weirath,

• Carol Allen,

• Terri Arndt,

• Martha Garcia-Serrato,

• Eric Takach,

• Betsy Schmitz,

• Rebecca Bailey,

The teachers were selected by their peers at their schools before being evaluated by a committee at the district level.

The district winners will be announced in March and recognized at the annual Teacher of the Year Celebration at in San Juan Capistrano on Thursday, April 28. The three winners—one each at the elementary, middle and high school levels—will then compete in the Orange County Teacher of the Year contest.

“I am proud that our teachers have selected the best of their colleagues to represent their school,” Capistrano Unified Education Association President Vicki Soderberg said. “Even after all of the sacrifices being made by schoolteachers and other employees, they come to work with one purpose—ensuring the best possible education for every student. Being able to recognize that commitment to our children is the least we can do.”
