Capo Unified Trustees to Talk About Cooperation

The special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in San Juan Capistrano.

In its fourth meeting this month, the s board of trustees will hold a special meeting today, Wednesday, to discuss the roles of a trustee and the relationship between the trustees and staff.

Titled "Board/Staff Roles, Responsibilities, Communication, Protocol and Procedures," the agenda item comes one meeting after , declining to participate in a vote to reaffirm the

Superintendent Joseph Farley has prepared a resolution for the trustees to consider. It says, in part: “I am aware the success of CUSD’s educational programs is dependent, in part, on my ability to work with my fellow board members in a spirit of harmony and cooperation despite differences of opinions among trustees.”

Trustees Ellen Addonizio and Sue Palazzo excused themselves from last week's meeting.

Their lawyer, Craig Alexander of Dana Point, told the board that his clients believe there were "material misstatements and material omissions of what occurred” in the documents presenting the vote to reaffirm earlier votes.

Alexander said today that he will not be present for tonight's meeting. "My clients advised me that this meeting has been planned for some time but postponed from March 16th due to the special meeting," he said.

Tonight’s meeting will be the third special meeting called this month. Also on the agenda is an item revisiting how often the board meets.

"These items are usually done at special board workshops or meetings," not during regularly scheduled board meetings, district spokesman Marcus Walton said. Walton declined to say who requested that the "Board/Staff Roles, Responsibilities, Communication, Protocol and Procedures" item be placed on the agenda.

In December, the board had approved a schedule of one board meeting a month, on the second Tuesdays of the month. However, the board has had at least one additional, special meeting each month since the new board was seated Dec. 7.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at 33122 Valle Rd., San Juan Capistrano.
