Carlsbad Unified Hires Robert Nye

The one-time principal at Dana Hills and current principal of Capo Unified's virtual school will leave CUSD to join another CUSD.

Robert Nye, once the principal at Dana Hills High and currently the principal of the Capistrano Unified School District’s new online high school has been whisked away to north San Diego County.

The Carlsbad Unified School District’s board of trustees voted Wednesday to hire Nye as its assistant superintendent of instructional services.

Nye served as principal at Dana from 2006-2011, when he was brought in to launch Capo’s first online high school, California Preparatory Academy, piloted last year and introduced in earnest this past September for ninth and 10th graders.

“Dr. Nye comes to Carlsbad with a wealth of knowledge that will keep our District on the cutting edge of excellence,” a Carlsbad press release states.

Beverly De Nicola, a spokeswoman for Capo, said Nye was instrumental in the start-up of the virtual school.

Capo Superintendent Joseph Farley sent an email to all staff, announcing the move.

"Dr. Nye has done an extraordinary job in all of his District assignments. ... We wish Dr. Nye well in his new assignment and know he will continue to make a difference for kids," Farley wrote.

Carlsbad’s superintendent, Suzette Lovely, also once worked at Capistrano Unified, from 1983-2009.
