Class of 2014 to Graduate at San Juan Hills 'Badlands' Stadium

Principal Tom Ressler is 99.9 percent sure the school cannot get the Bren Center this year.

Ever since San Juan Hills High had its first graduating class in 2011, it has hosted the grand event at UCI’s Bren Center, which not only features plenty of parking but air conditioning to boot.

But for the first time, a graduating class may make like the rest of the high schools in Capistrano Unified and take to the football field.

Principal Tom Ressler told the student newspaper, The Express, that he’s “99.9 percent sure” the Class of 2014 will graduate at the Badlands.

Ressler said administrators were expecting the school year to end Monday, June 23, and booked the Bren Center for that evening. But negotiations with the teachers’ union resulted in one extra school day, ending school on the June 24 – a date the Bren Center already had booked.

“There are some significant hurdles we have to deal with, but we’ll make it happen,” Ressler told The Express. ““We’ll squeeze everyone we possibly, legally can.”
