Controversial Charter School Taps New Chancellor

The new arrival comes from Corona del Mar High School.

A controversial charter school in Capistrano Unified has tapped the principal of Corona del Mar High as its next chancellor.

Tim Bryan recently accepted the position of chancellor of the Mission Viejo-based Oxford Preparatory Academy. OPA had the highest achievement scores for K-8 schools in Orange County last year.

However, the relationship with Capo has been rocky, with accusations of cheating which ultimately proved to be unfounded, according to investigations both the school district and the charter school conducted.

In an email sent Friday, Bryan expressed appreciation and gratitude to the students, staff and families for their support during his tenure as principal of CdMHS.

“The tremendous support that parents have demonstrated for the school and your children’s education is the cornerstone of CdM’s success," Bryan wrote. "I am certain that CdM will continue to thrive and grow. I am grateful for all that my time here has taught me and the support you have provided for your children.”

Patch was unable to reach OPA officials to find out the plans for previous chancellor Jason Watts.
