Queen Anna, King Armando to Represent Mission Parish School in Swallows Celebrations

The eighth-grade students will partake in St. Joseph's Day celebrations this Saturday and will ride in the Swallows' Day Parade.

Mission Parish School has crowned its king and queen.

Anna Prukop and Armando Fajardo will preside over the school's 2011 Royal Court during this Saturday and the on March 26.

The 2011 Royal Court consists of eighth-grade students who embody “excellence” on all levels, academically and spiritually. Princesses are Angelica Javier, Caroline Jenner and Amalia Priest. Princes are Carter Hadley, Ethan Parker and Luke Zuvich.

Prukop, 14, has a 3.95 GPA, is a recipient of the St. Francis Scholarship for Excellence in Language Arts and has participated in every sport available at Mission Parish School for girls, including volleyball, basketball, soccer and cheer. She has been on the student council, an altar server, a cantor, choir member and is a member of various service clubs.

An avid soccer player, Fajardo, also 14, is in the school choir and performing arts club, and will be making his stage debut in an upcoming school play. With a 3.4 GPA, he's an honor roll student. He's also a senior altar server at Mission Basilica.

Recently, he helped the school's basketball team win the 2011 Mater Dei tournament. The team also won first place in the 2011 Beach League.

The tradition of naming a St. Joseph’s Day Royal Court began in 1953 to represent Spain's King Carlos and Queen Isabella, who were reigning monarchs in 1769 when the California mission system was founded.  The students will dress in period costumes and participate in Mission Parish School’s school-wide St. Joseph’s Day performances March 19 and will ride on the school’s famed float at the Swallows Day Parade on March 26.
