Tartan Today: Students Turn Children Book Authors for Good Cause

St. Margaret's eighth graders Alexandra Zalewski, Katie Weaver, Laurel Smith and Shelby Nicholas won a writing contest. Their original tales will be published and sold to benefit a local food bank.

A story about a rockstar mouse with an ever-changing hairstyle won the middle-school authors a first place prize in a charitable writing contest.

students Alexandra Zalewski, Katie Weaver and Laurel Smith's book is being professionally edited, illustrated, published and sold, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Kids Cafe program of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, the school reported Tuesday in its news blog, the Tartan Today.

Their peer Shelby Nichola won the same prize for her tale about a girl who overcomes her fears with the help of her sister.
