Who's Running for What

A quick rundown on the final confirmed candidates for City Council and school board in San Juan Capistrano.

And the nominees are...

  • For the two open seats on San Juan Capistrano's City Council: incumbent Sam Allevato, author Melissa Abbott-Kaffen, Planning Commissioner Ginny Kerr, Kim McCarthy, technology administrator Tom Marantz and physician Dr. Roy L. Byrnes. Incumbent . To read the council candidates' statements, click here.
  • For Capistrano Unified School District: No newcomers joined the race during the extended filing period that ended Wednesday. That leaves and squaring off for retiring Trustee Jack Brick’s seat in Trustee Area No. 1, which represents Capo Beach, Dana Point and parts of San Juan Capistrano -- and San Juan Capistrano residents  and  and Ladera Ranch residents  and vying for Trustee Area No. 2. which represents parts of San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza. A fifth candidate, Joel Almeida, dropped out of the second race.
