2012 City Cup & Charity Challenge Golf Tournament

The tournament will kick off with a 1:00 shotgun start and offers a fun atmosphere, business networking and a chance to compete for golfers at every skill level.  It is the first time since 2008 that the Chamber has hosted what was once an annual golf tournament.

“A lot of business truly gets done on golf courses.  In addition, it’s a really fun day and a good opportunity for an additional fundraiser for the Chamber so we decided to bring it back,” said Chamber CEO Mark Bodenhamer.

A customized, weighted scoring system that was developed by long time PGA professionals ensures a fair and level playing field for those wishing to claim the title of San Juan Capistrano’s best golf foursome and City Cup Champions.

With the date falling on the eve of Cinco de Mayo, a festive theme is planned for the event.  Mexican Food from Ricardo’s Place will be served for lunch and San Juan Hills Golf Club will cater the post-tournament banquet.  A group of Mariachis will welcome golfers back from the course at the end of the tournament.

In addition to the golfing, the event is designed to give local non-profits a chance to shine.  The Chamber has invited organizations that operate in or primarily benefit San Juan Capistrano to find a foursome that will golf on their behalf.  If their foursome wins, the charity will receive a $2,500 prize.  If a foursome that is not associated with a local organization wins, they will select one of the participating organizations.

Many local companies have stepped up to support the City Cup & Charity Challenge.  Fluidmaster is the event’s headline sponsor.  Other major sponsors are AT&T, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Independence Bank & the Capistrano Auto Group.  Sponsorships, which start at just $150, are still available through the San Juan Chamber office.

The Chamber is looking for local golfers who want to play for the title of City Cup Champion or who would like to represent another local organization.
