Football: OC Top 10 After Week 5; JSerra Moves Up

Four of the top five teams are from the Trinity League, including JSerra.

By Martin Henderson

More movement out of JSerra this week after the Lions thoroughly beat Trabuco Hills. It was supposed to be JSerra's biggest test, and the Lions handled it just fine—and did so without making one of their trademark big plays.

JSerra wasn't even in the top 10 in the poll of 10 voting media members at the beginning of the season, although you might recall a particular local scribe who had the Lions ranked No. 7 the first week of September. OK, it was me.

Below is the county Top 10 after Week 5, with first place counting for 10 points, second for nine, etc.).

MARTIN HENDERSON'S VOTE FROM PATCH.COM

1. Mission Viejo (5-0) After win over REV, still the class of the field.

2. Servite (3-2) Not going to penalize the Friars for voluntarily playing the No. 1 team in the state.

3. Mater Dei (5-0) Monarchs project well, but do we really know how good they are? Play Servite this week.

4. Santa Margarita (3-2) Idle Eagles and Servite are the only Trinity League teams with losses.

5. JSerra (5-0) Lions exploded in the second half to beat Trabuco Hills, 37-15.

6. La Habra (4-1) Hard to choose where to place the Highlanders.

7. Trabuco Hills (4-2) Against JSerra, didn’t look like the same team that went the distance with Santa Margarita.

8. Tesoro (4-1) Titans won’t fail for lack of practice if game against Trabuco is close.

9. Orange Lutheran (5-0) Have lost the last two seasons to JSerra, and now face best Lions team ever.

10. Edison (3-2) Chargers play Huntington Beach, which has already played JSerra, Trabuco.
