Robert Webber passed for 203 yards and TDs of 20 and 85 yards. Despite giving up 56 points last week in a record-setting 86-56 victory over Upland, the Centennial defense held Vista Murrieta’s potent offense to 247 yards—two field goals and a double pass for a touchdown.
San Dimas 20, Lancaster Paraclete 14—Fausto Martinez rushed for 165 yards, and Joseph Mayorga rushed for 151 two touchdowns for third-seeded San Dimas. Mayorga’s last touchdown was a 32-yarder with 27 seconds remaining that gave the Saints their second championship. Newhall Hart 28, Valencia 21—Brady White passed for 318 yards and three touchdowns, including a 53-yarder to Wes Fitzpatrick with 5:42 remaining, s the Indians (12-2 upset second-seeded Valencia (11-3). Hart won the game despite committing seven turnovers. The victory avenged a 24-19 loss to Valencia during Foothill League play.
Corona del Mar 42, Garden Grove 12—Second-string running back Anthony Battista, a sophomore, carried 11 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Sea Kings (14-0) to their 24th consecutive victory and third consecutive championship. Luke Napolitano passed for one touchdown and ran for two as his team beat second-seeded Garden Grove (13-1) for the second year in a row.
West Hills Chaminade 38, Gardena Serra 35—After losing to Serra in Mission League play, 36-0, Ben Kreitenberg kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give second-seeded Chaminade (12-2) an upset of top-seeded Serra (13-1). Donovan Lee rushed for 125 yards and four touchdowns for the Eagles, and Brad Kaaya passed for 298 yards and a score. Serra, which beat Chaminade in last year’s final, 30-28, was trying to win its fourth title in five years; with a victory, it was a lock to participate in the State Bowl Regional and, along with Bellflower St. John Bosco was a favorite to be selected for the Open Division. Serra was boosted by a 94-yard punt return and 95-yard kickoff return by Adoree Jackson. Chaminade coach Ed Croson has now won section titles in the Southern and L.A. City sections.
