Football: St. John Bosco 48, JSerra 7

Trinity League: Locked in the second-toughest league in America, JSerra can't break through against Bosco, which puts the Lions in good company.

JSerra nearly pulled off the upset of the year in 2012 when it rallied from a 24-point deficit in the second half and forced overtime before losing to Bellflower St. John Bosco, 44-41. With that lesson being instilled once again, Bosco didn’t let down and JSerra never got up off the ground in a 48-7 setback to the team ranked No. 5 in the nation by Maxpreps.

Pivotal Moment: On the opening drive, a JSerra fumble was returned 18 yards for a touchdown by Bosco’s Michael Ray. Against a team as potent offensively as Bosco, JSerra couldn’t afford to give up a freebie, and that was a freebie.

Notes: If JSerra can’t win its two remaining games, against Servite next week and Santa Margarita, it almost certainly won’t make the playoffs as an at-large team. … Casey Eugenio rushed for 76 yards for the Lions, and Nick Robinson passed for 105, including a 75-yard score to Ethan Aguayo with 8:20 left in the third quarter. …

The JSerra touchdown made it 34-7. … Indicative of how good the Trinity League is, Maxpreps ranks it the second-toughest league in the nation, and JSerra—despite its league record—is ranked No. 8 in Orange County.
