JSerra's Star Catcher Signs With Padres for $3 Million

Austin Hedges, a 2011 graduate of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, had committed to UCLA when he was picked in the second-round draft.

Fresh out of, catcher Austin Hedges has signed with the San Diego Padres for $3 million, the North County Times reports.

He "was considered the best defensive catcher in the draft in the last decade."

Originally Hedges was projected to be a first-round pick, but some clubs may have been scared away by his seemingly.

As the North County Times points out, Hedges "was considered unsignable because of his demands."

In choosing the Padres—the deadline to sign was Monday—Hedges received a $3 million bonus.
