Saddleback Valley Christian Can't Be Stopped in Playoff Rout

Another San Juan Capistrano high school makes it past the first round of the Southern Section playoffs.

Four San Juan Capistrano high schools entered the football post-season this weekend, and with its crushing victory on Saturday, Saddleback Valley Christian Schools makes it three teams that survived.

Facing California Military Institute of Perris and playing at St. Margaret's, the Warriors did indeed come out to play, scoring 48 points by halftime alone. When the dust settled, Saddleback had 10 TDs. Ten! T-E-N!!

Key Stats: SVC’s Jake Markum passed for 168 yards and three touchdowns, while teammates James Bethea rushed 161 yards and one touchdown and Justin Sanchez for 112 yards and three TDs.

Pivotal Moment: If there was a pivotal moment, it was probably when everyone form Saddleback Valley Christian made it onto the field for the kickoff. SVC pummeled from the outset, scoring three times in the first 10 minutes for a 21-0 lead. The Warriors scored on every possession until their last, when they took a knee to end the game.

Notes: Markum's TD passes were 12 yards to Charlie Morris, 48 to Sawyer Caso-Nogle, and 23 to Luke DeAvila, the latter with 4:27 left in the game. ... Sanchez scored on runs of 4, 7 and 42 yards. ... Other TDs came on runs by Bethea (2 yards), Caso-Nogle (8), Shaunti Martin (6). ... Cade Henjum threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Caleb Ward for a 48-0 lead with 19 seconds left in the first half. ... The defense scored, too. Gary Weiss had a 14-yard fumble return that made it 42-0. ... The 68 points was not the highest-scoring output of the season for the Warriors. They defeated Walnut Southlands Christian, 83-0, in the San Joaquin League opener. ... In the second round, SVC will be on the road against Desert High of Edwards AFB. ... Fourth-seeded Desert beat Long Beach St. Anthony in its first-round game, 51-27.
