SJC's Kessy Begins Olympic Quest Sunday

A beach volleyball player, all eyes will be on the Dana Hills graduate.

The only Olympics 2012 athlete who calls San Juan Capistrano her hometown, Jennifer Kessy, takes to the court Sunday.

Make that, the sand.

At 34 and 5 feet, 11 inches, Kessy and her 6-foot-1-inch partner April Ross, are newcomers to the Olympics in a sea of veteran beach volleyballers. According to Yahoo Sports the two has been a team since 2007.

You can catch Kessy in action 9 p.m. Sunday (that’s London time). On the Olympics 2012 schedule, she’s in Group D, Match 8. Kessy and Ross will take on a much smaller Argentinean team.

She also snagged a corporate spokeswoman spot for CoverGirl just before the Summer Games. So we may see her a lot even on days she’s not playing.

This may explain why she was the sixth American professional beach volleyball player to rack up more than $1 million earnings, according to Beach Volleyball Database

And while we may be seeing a lot less of some beach volleyball athletes – the ladies have the choice of donning shorts and sleeved tops this year – Kessy told Fashionstyle.com that the new look is not for her.

"We're not uncomfortable in our bikinis. When you grow up in Southern California, that's what you wear in the summertime. This is the most comfortable thing for us to wear," she told them.
